Somelite, also known as "coral sand," consists of natural coral grains that primarily consist of shells and skeletons of reef-building coral. Foraminifera, such as star sand, inhabiting the water near Okinawa, is also in the coral grains. These organisms ingest calcium and magnesium from the ocean. Consequently, coral sand is made up of approximately 95% calcium carbonate. Somelite also contains abundant amounts of calcium, magnesium and other minerals that promote optimal body health.

Used as a water-purifying agent, the minerals in Somelite flow into the water, creating a balance of minerals. It also increases tap water alkalinity and removes odor.
